 Contact Pediatrics 1st when....
- A child has difficulty expressing their needs/wants intelligibly using age appropriate means.
- A child demonstrates sensory-based or medically based conditions which inhibit them from consuming liquid and solid foods to maintain a healthy weight.
- A child with known respiratory, neurological, and/or structural abnormalities with delayed chronological development across speech, language, voice and feeding areas.
- A child can not complete simple analogies, describe items in their environment, verbally recall and sequence recent events, or has difficulty retelling familiar stories.
- A child has academic difficulties involving Language Arts, attending and performing academic activities in a timely manner.
- A child is known to be socially "awkward", shy or fearful of initiating communication with peers, difficulty following social norms and poor awareness of non-verbal communication cues.
- A child has an abnormally "hoarse" or "harsh" vocal quality for an extended amount of time (clearance from an ENT is mandatory prior to initiation in voice therapy)
- A child demonstrates difficulty with speech fluency or is known to "stutter"
- A child resides in a bilingual household and displays delays in both languages.
